Benton Estates, Belmont
Located in the Payson Park neighborhood, Benton Estates is a historic Belmont neighborhood, with a rich history. In 1840 construction began on the "Bellmont Mansion", and was completed in 1855. The large Greek Revival home was built by JP Cushing. In 1862 after Cushing died, the property was purchased by Samuel Payson. Much of the land was sold for development over the next fifty years. In 1902, Colonel Everett Benton purchased mansion and lived there for many years. The mansion eventually burned, and that land was also sold for development in the late 1920's.
Today the much sought after Benton Estates neighborhood contains large single family homes most of which were built in the 1920's and 30's. The homes typically contain three to five bedroom, two or three baths, and contain 2,000 to over 4,000 square feet of living space.
